Golija mountain is under the protection of UNESCO as a natural bio-sphere reservation. A part of the Uvac river gorge is proclaimed a natural reservation as a domicile for special griffon vulture as a relic species in Europe.
MOUNTAINS AND LAKES
Tara is a wild and unexplored mountain along the Drina river and this area is one of the last oases of coniferous trees and a great number of significant species such as chamois bear, wolf, eagle... It is excellent for hunting and having a rest in preserved mountain nature. Mountain Zlatar is situated among the rivres of Lim, Uvac, Milesevka and Bistrica.This mountain has fragrant meadows and clear lakes surrounded by spruces and birches, a mixture of the Mediterranean and mountainous climate, fresh air enriched by turpentine and ozone. Tourism in the villages and on farms has been developed throughout this region for many years so it is a traditional part of the regional toursit offer. People can rest in mountain villages (Sirogojno is an example), enjoy fresh and home-made food, nice air or they can go swimming and fishing and stay near the Drina river or in the old water mills near Kosjeric which is a very original and unique way of spending a holiday. Another tourist attraction in the Region is a narrow railway line in the form of number 8 which is a part of the old railway line Uzice - Sarajevo, so called “SARGAN EIGHT”. It is a unique combination of tunnels and bridges which is a 13 km long railway with an altitude difference of 300 meters considering the starting and final terminal.
Sirogojno is the only museum in the open in Serbia with 50 original huts made of logs which are the old Serbian family houses which show the way of living in the old times with over 2000 interesting exhibition items. Potpec cave and Stopic cave are the real paradise for speleologists. HISTORICAL HERITAGE
The second hydroelectric power stationin Serbia wa built in Uzice in 1900 and is in function. There are a lot of monuments - the old Serbian monuments and tombs to soldiers from the World War I. The historic places from World War II are Kadinjaca, Jabuka and Uzice Republic - the only free territory in 1941. |
