ECOLOGY

The National park of Mt. Tara, the largest park in Serbia, covers the biggest part of Mt.Tara, clad in dense, well preserved forests of fir, spruce, beech and pine trees, the only place in the world where a rare species - Pancic`s spruce is found in its natural habitat.

Golija mountain is under the protection of UNESCO as a natural bio-sphere reservation.

A part of the Uvac river gorge is proclaimed a natural reservation as a domicile for special griffon vulture as a relic species in Europe.

MOUNTAINS AND LAKES

Zlatibor is an exceptionally beautiful mountain, with a pleasant climate (more then 200 sunny days over the year), with peaks and lovely slopes covered with meadows, pastures, pine tree forests and mountain brooks. The hotels are excellent and hospitality is in mentality of the people. The mountain is good for skiing, for sporstmen, family stay, congress tourism, medical tourism etc.

Tara is a wild and unexplored mountain along the Drina river and this area is one of the last oases of coniferous trees and a great number of significant species such as chamois bear, wolf, eagle... It is excellent for hunting and having a rest in preserved mountain nature.

Mountain Zlatar is situated among the rivres of Lim, Uvac, Milesevka and Bistrica.This mountain has fragrant meadows and clear lakes surrounded by spruces and birches, a mixture of the Mediterranean and mountainous climate, fresh air enriched by turpentine and ozone.

CONGRESS CENTERS AND EVENTS

Several tourist centers offer everything that participants of congresses, seminars and other meetings need or desire. The places such as Zlatibor, Tara, Zlatar and Ivanjica have very good hotels and congress rooms for such occassions.

Tourists can find a lot of interesting events from elite balls to festival village parties, from international sports events to humourous tests of strength at village festivals.

SPORTS AND FREE TIME ACTIVITES

The success of Serbian basketball, volleyball, football teams in the world prove that children`s sports camps at our mountains are something special and fruitful, something prosperous for our nation and something that is worth organizing.

Our wonderful countryside gives pleasure to those who adore unspoilt nature, to mountaineers, cyclists, hunters and fishermen...

MEDICAL TOURISM

Zlatibor Medical Institute is dealing in prevention, curing and rehabilitation of the people suffering from diseases of thyroid gland and metabolism, asthma and there is also a special diet treatment of the people suffering from overweight.

Also, there is a Centre for prevention, medical treatment and rehabilitation of patients with cardio-vascular diseases at Mt.Zlatar as well as the Institute for prevention, medical treatment and rehabilitation of patiens with blood diseases in Ivanjica.

Priboj Spa & Roge Spa
These spas are famous for their good effects on patients suffering from rheumatism and metabolism problems.

INTERESTING PLACES

Tourism in the villages and on farms has been developed throughout this region for many years so it is a traditional part of the regional toursit offer. People can rest in mountain villages (Sirogojno is an example), enjoy fresh and home-made food, nice air or they can go swimming and fishing and stay near the Drina river or in the old water mills near Kosjeric which is a very original and unique way of spending a holiday.

Another tourist attraction in the Region is a narrow railway line in the form of number 8 which is a part of the old railway line Uzice - Sarajevo, so called “SARGAN EIGHT”. It is a unique combination of tunnels and bridges which is a 13 km long railway with an altitude difference of 300 meters considering the starting and final terminal.

The most famous Serbian prophet called Tarabic was buried at Kremna, the village on the way from Uzice to Sargan. His tomb is visited by many tourists all the year long.

Sirogojno is the only museum in the open in Serbia with 50 original huts made of logs which are the old Serbian family houses which show the way of living in the old times with over 2000 interesting exhibition items.

Potpec cave and Stopic cave are the real paradise for speleologists.

HISTORICAL HERITAGE

South-western Serbia is abundant in medival churches and monasteries.The most famous monastery from the 13th century is Mileseva with the famous fresco called White angel, but also there are monasteries and wooden churches in Raca, Klisura, Bela Crkva, Arilje. There are unexplored medival towns of Sjeverin, Dobrun, Solotusa town and Uzice old town.

The second hydroelectric power stationin Serbia wa built in Uzice in 1900 and is in function. There are a lot of monuments - the old Serbian monuments and tombs to soldiers from the World War I. The historic places from World War II are Kadinjaca, Jabuka and Uzice Republic - the only free territory in 1941.
